SPOILERS

Andrew Gardield, Spider-man.-

Ultimate Spider-man.-

Los tios: Ben y May.-

SPOILERS

Before I start talking about the film, a recommendation don't listen to anyone, just go and watch it and judge for yourselves, there is a strange controversy with this film that I don't understand, it's not the best Spider-man and it isn't bullshit, I don't see any "Twilight" look or (before  She was born, the writer, Spider-man already had his dose of "soap opera") or the "Nolan" one.

As a reboot it would have to repeat certain key elements that will always be the essence of Spider-man: A Peter Paker not too popular but practically a genius and with no ability to interact with girls + a spider bite (which gives him powers) + death of Uncle Ben = Spider-man. Add a girl for the part of love and a villain to give emotion.

While not perfect, with a few flaws, is a pretty decent entertainment and probably the second best film of Marvel's wallcrawler.

Andrew Gardield, Spider-man. -

I don't know what you think about who plays the best Peter, I think Andrew's Peter Parker is a much closer "to the real" Peter, much beter than Tobey Maguire's one. I don't hate Maguire, he has a few good movies, but his Peter was almost like the 60's one, he didn't "evolve", at least not enough, and every two minutes you know his Peter had that stupid face (and not to mention his stupid dance in the third movie).

Peter Parker is a scientist, which is rarely seen in the previous trilogy (okay, maybe we knew it was going to college and he spoke with Octopus of science, but then ... nothing "scientific", and in the first or second we don't see anything). In this version is much more clearly when he talks with Connors with the rest of the interns or at Connor's house, the invention of the webshooters, or simply to understand the studies of his father or Connors and learn to use them is enough to show that he is smart and a scientist. It was also a nice touch that  he is still a photographer but in this case the in his high school's newspaper (and we have the chance to see the Bugle in the following movies).

As for his personality, I see many of the changes well in general in terms of look (wearing contact lenses instead of glasses, he doesn't have to wear that look so 60's, think about how Peter dresses today). Besides his Peter is thinner but we see that he is strong without much muscle (his "accidents" in the bathroom for example), and when he starts using his webs in the city it looks much more real and spectacular.

Ultimate Spider-man. -

There is no doubt that a lot of inspiration came from the update of the character made in the Ultimate line of Marvel by Bendis. His father was scientific and he invented more or less the web fluid (he may also have worked with Brock's father?, who knows), or part of the personalities of Peter, May and Ben, Gwen (Maybe they also added a little of her character in the animated series Spectacular Spider-man, where she is also a scientist) and her father, all of them come from this universe with a mixture of the 616 of course. I can' forget the spectacular battle at the high school where you change the Green Goblin for the Lizard and is still the same, great.

Uncle Ben and Aunt May. -

Some people complain that it's not said the famous "with great power comes great responsability", repeated again and again in the previous triology, however, more or less in essence it was said (but Ben rather refers it to something Peter's father believed, and anyway in Amazing Fantasy 15 Uncle Ben didn't say it). I believe that although the participation of both characters is quite small they have captured their essence, we also see how Peter blames himself and suffer for the death of Ben or May is more active and less sensitive as her Ultimate version or JMS's one (at least here it seems she realizes that his nephew starts getting bruised at the same time that a certain vigilante appears in NYC). And also briefly, I liked the character of Flash more close to the comic character, who ends up becoming Peter's friend and Spidey's fan.

Curt Connors, the Lizard. -

I liked his performance and made me remember the classics or more recent comics where he always plans to dominate humans. Like many people said maybe he would have been more depth with his wife and son as secondary though ... it looks like it was filmed but deleted from the final cut.

About his design, I think we must remember his first versions (Ditko's), you will see as they are practically the same.

Gwen Stacy, the first love of Peter. -

They have chosen the first love of Peter for this film. Before, you could have used others like Betty or Liz, but Gwen was something of a different level (and before Mary Jane). Emma Stone and Andrew have a chemistry much better compared to the previous trilogy, is more credible and real (I was a bit tired of the previous "Mary Janeeeeee" of Peter before the eternal damsel in danger, and with that touch of the Ultimate Gwen and "Spectacular" that makes her sweet but smart and strong, almost opposite the Mary Jane Raimi). I guess that we'll end up watching her falling from a bridge in the 2nd or 3rd one.

Nonsense. -

Although the overall balance of the film is more than positive, there are certain moments that make no sense whatsoever (even Dan Slott recognizes it). The disappearance of Coonor's boss, Peter Parker walking around in Oscorp like he owned the place, Peter giving Connors the equation just like that, When Gwen calls him Spider --- before he decides to call himself that, or the scene New York loves Spider-man (which luckily I missed xD). In general, these details makes it lose points, but I think some of them could be explained ...

The Untold Story removed. -

While promoting the film they clearly insisted on "the untold story of Spider-man", it seems they were going to change more things, and although little is seen I think what happened was rather that they wouldn't dare to take risks to innovate too much.

I will give some examples to make sure that you realize about some parts if you have not already done so. In the same trailers we see scenes like those seen above. Definitely the boss of Connors had more to say about the death of Peter's parents and Peter and Connors interacted even more. Moreover, when Connors tells Peter that nobody had survived the crossing between species, Peter just doesn't seem worried about his life ...

I think they wanted to give him a different origin, similar to Ang Lee's Hulk where Bruce already had something inside him. Also it wouldn't surprise me if Peter had found the thief (Gwen called him Spider-man before the bridge scene, there was some cutting here).

Conclusion. -

Maybe The Amazing Spider-man is not perfect and doesn't have the same goals of Nolan's Batman but if the result is as entertaining and true to the essence of the wall-crawler like this, Sony can keep making triologies (besides they won't stop, they don't want to lose its rights and the previous trilogy gave them more than 2000 or 2500 million).

    ¡Saludos!
