War of the Green Lanterns (Green Lantern USA 63-67)

Último arco antes del relanzamiento de DC del GL de Johns, aunque esta es una de las partes del Universo DC que non cambia absolutamente nada, ya que el nuevo número 1 de GL sigue justo los acontecimientos de esta saga. 

"ALERTA-ALERTA, SPOILERS" (:P). En la introducción a esta saga vemos el origen del odio de Krona hacia los Guardianes del Universo (Cuando no eran unos enanos apitufados) y que la razón por la que los Manhunters masacraron el sector de Atrocitus fue para demostrar que los Manhunters no eran los protectores adecuados y debían aceptar las emociones. Mientras que Hal sigue con los líderes de los otros "Corps" (vamos, la pandilla de los colorines se da una vuelta por el Universo) intentando parar al responsable de la desaparición de todas las entidades emocionales: Krona. Todos quedarán atrapados menos Hal, mientras que Krona hace que las entidades posean a todos los Guardianes menos Parallax que vuelve a la batería central, lo que hace que Krona pueda controlar a todos los Lanterns menos a los que lucharon contra Parallax en GL Rebirth (es decir, los humanos, Kilowog y Ganthet). Por lo que los GL de la Tierra tendrá que usar los anillos de los otros Corps, Hal usando el amarillo (miedo), Guy el rojo (ira), Kyle el azul (esperanza) y John el morado  (compasión). Con sus nuevos anillos tendrán que hacer frente a los guardianes poseídos por las entidades y Krona con todos los Green Lanterns bajo su control.

Pronto descubriremos que Krona quiere convertir a los lanterns humanos en los nuevos guardianes junto a él, ya que al menos ellos sienten emociones. Aunque podrán liberar al resto de los GL de la influencia de Parallax y liberar a los lideres de los otros corps para la batalla final contra Krona. Con la inexperada ayuda del nuevo Green Lantern, Sinestro, Hal conseguirá matar a Krona, aunque será desterrado y desposeído de su anillo por unos aterrorizados Guardianes del Universo temerosos de que sus propios subordinados puedan matarlos (recordar que Krona era un Guardian también, más o menos). Y así dejan las cosas para la nueva serie protagonizada por Sinestro.

Puede que Johns no sea Alan Moore, pero al menos su nombre garantiza historias entretenidas (con algunas pocas excepciones). Aunque cada vez me parece que Johns usa un poco una estructura de Shonen, cada vez enemigos más poderosos (primero luchar contra una entidad, después luchar contra todas a la vez), cada vez nuevos poderes (los nuevos Corps, el Linterna Blanco), etc.

Sobre su dibujante, Doug Mahnke, me costó acostumbrarme a él al princpio tras la marcha de Ivan Reis, aunque hoy en día pienso que es un buen dibujante, expresivo y con buena narrativa.

Last arc before DC's relaunch, although this is one of the parts of DC Universe that won't change at all, if you read the new number 1 you see that it continues the events of this saga, so no big changes on GL Universe.

"WARNING-WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD" (: P). In the introduction to this arc, we see the origin of Krona's hate to the Guardians of the Universe and that the reason why the Manhunters killed everyone in Atrocitus' sector, Krona tried to show the Guardians that the Manhunters weren't adequate to protect the universe and they must have accepted their emotions. While Hal is with the leaders of the other Corps (come on, the gang of bright colors is hanging out around Universe) trying to stop the person who is responsible for the disappearance of all the entities: Krona. All of them will be trapped, but Hal manges to run away, while Krona makes all entities possess all the Guardinas, except Parallax who returns to the central battery, which makes Krona be able to control all the Green Lanterns, except those who fought in GL Rebirth against Parallax (the humans, Ganthet and Kilowog).

 

So the Earth's GL will have to use rings of the other Corps, Hal using the yellow (fear), Guy red (rage), Kyle Blue (Hope) and John the purple ring (compassion). With new rings  they will have to face the Guardians possessed by the entities and Krona and all the Green Lanterns under his (including Mogo) control.

 

We soon discover that Krona wants to make the humans lanters become the new Guardians next to him, because for him, humans feel emotions. They'll manage to free the Lanterns and the leaders of the other corps and fight Krona. Hal, with the help of unexpected GL (Sinestro), kills Krona. Then, the freed Guardians, scared of the Power of Jordan (who was able to kill one of them), exiled him to the Earth, banned of the Corps. So there's where the new series begins, with Sinestro as a Green Lantern again, and Hal in Earth without the ring and both trying to figure out what to do.

Johns may not be Alan Moore, but at least his name ensures entertaining stories (well, with just a few exceptions). Nevertheless, I think that Johns uses some Shonen (manga) structures, increasingly more powerful enemies (first, fight against an entity -Parallax-, after some time they have to fight all of them at the same time), each time new and new powers (the Sinestro Corps, the rest of the Corps, the White Lantern, etc). 

About the artist, Doug Mahnke, it was a bit hard to get used to his art at the beginning but after all, nowadays I think that he is a good artist, with expressive characters and good storytelling.
