Flashpoint

Miniserie de DC centrada en el velocista escarlata y destinada a cambiar al universo DC (por enésima vez). Podría compararse con la Era de Apocalipsis por el hecho de que alguien cambia algo en el pasado, y todo ello desencadena una serie de cambios que hacen que el mundo sea totalmente diferente.


ATENCIÓN SPOILERS. Esos cambios son principalmente que Barry Allen nunca se convirtió en Flash, y que su madre nunca fue asesinada por el Flash Reverso, pero aparte del hecho que no haya más velocistas en ese mundo, parece que hay cambios más importantes. La Tierra está desolada ante una guerra entre Aquaman y Wonder Woman, por lo que tenemos Europa medio destruida y todos los Atlantes en guerra contra las Amazonas.

La mayor parte de los grandes héroes del Universo DC no existen y pocos intentan hacer el bien en este mundo (Cyborg o el Capitán Marvel son de los pocos que han intentado algo, mientras que Batman sigue siendo más "local). Cuando Barry se da cuenta que ya no tiene sus poderes y como ha cambiado el mundo, buscará ayuda de uno de sus pocos amigos que aún siguen, Batman. Aunque como ya sabéis, aquí el hombre tras la máscara no es Bruce Wayne, sino su padre Thomas Wayne.

Tenemos el típico enfrentamiento entre héroes, malentendido, pelea, aclaraciones, etc. En un primer momento no le cree, pero pronto verá una esperanza sobre un mundo donde Bruce esté vivo. Por lo que decide ayudar a Barry, empezando por recuperar sus poderes. Por lo que lo primero es recrear el accidente que le otorgó su velocidad, pero no salé bien y Barry sufré un  accidente casi mortal, pero aún así no desiste en volver a intentarlo, y a la segunda consigue y se ponen en marcha para parar la guerra entre WW y Aquaman y encontrar al Flash Reverso para que el mundo vuelva ser como era. Flash, Batman y Cyborg se disponen a reclutar a los que puedan y en plena batalla entre la resistencia y las dos facciones de la guerra aparece el Flash Reverso con una revelación, el no hizo nada, fue Barry salvando a su madre el que hizo que cambiara todo, y haciendo eso le convirtió en una paradoja por lo que ya no necesita que Barry se convierta en Flash para que el lo pueda conseguir en el futuro, ahora puede matarle, aunque el otro gran protagonista de la miniserie, Batman, consigue salvar a Barry y matar al Flash Reverso.

Es entonces cuando Barry tiene que volver al pasado e impedirse a si mismo (su versión del pasado) salvar a su madre, lo que desencadena con el "reboot" del Universo DC (además de añadirle Wildstorm y parte de Vertigo).

Ya finalizado ese resumen, que en cierta medida me vendrá bien en el futuro, paso a comentar otros aspectos de la miniserie-crossover. Creo que como historia de Flash funciona, y es entretenida e interesante, aunque de eso a supercrossover con tantos especiales y al relanzamiento del Universo DC no llega. Solo me compré la colección principal, y como mucho hubiera comprado la centrada en el Batman de esta miniserie, pero ninguna más (quizás también tuvieran cierto interés las de Aquaman y Wonderwoman para profundizar en las razones de la guerra, o la de Superman por el contraste de este personaje aquí con el su versión normal), pero sinceramente, con comprarse la miniserie es más que suficiente, y no deberían haber hecho tanta miniserie. Por otro lado, el dibujo de Andy Kubert está a los niveles que nos tiene acostumbrados, y como me suele gustar este dibujante no puedo quejarme por ese aspecto.

Si lo tomamos como una historia de Flash (y Batman) funciona y es más que entretenida, aunque sabemos que se ha usado para un cambio más que profundo en la editorial. Descansen en paz todos los personajes difuntos tras el relanzamiento.

English version.-

DC's miniseries focused on Flash, and changing the DC universe (again...!). It could be compared to the Age of Apocalypse in the same way, someone changes something in the past and it triggers a series of changes and the world becomes totally different.

SPOILERS AHEAD. Barry Allen never became Flash and his mother is still alive, the Reverse Flash never killed her. Apart from the fact that there is not any Flash and the World is desolate, there is a war between Aquaman and Wonderwoman (Atlanteans vs Amazons), so half of the World is almost destroyed.

Most of the superheroes don't exist in this World, and only a few of them are trying to stop the War (Cyborg and Captain Marvel, while Batman is still only focused in Gotham). When Barry realizes that he no longer has his powers and how everything has changed, tries to ask for help from one the few heroes and friends who still exists in this World: Batman. Although, as you know, the man behind the mask is not Bruce Wayne, Batman is his father, Thomas Wayne.

Well, so we have the typical misunderstanding between heroes, a fight, and so on. At first, Batman doesn't believe him, but soon he will find hope in a world where Bruce is alive. He decides to help him, starting to find a way to make Barry become the Flash again. They try to recreate the accident that gave Barry his powers the first time, but something goes wrong and Barry almost die, but he doesn't give up and the second lighting make him become the Flash, the Fastest man alive. Now they are ready to stop the war and find the Reverse Flash to bring the World back  to the way it was.

In the middle of the battle he finds the Flash Reverse, who make Barry realize that he is the one who changed the world saving his mother's life and not him. Also changing that, he make him become a living paradox, so he doesn't need him anymore to become the Flash and the Flash Reverse in the future, so he can kill whenever he wants, and he tries it, but the other main character of this story, Batman manages to save Barry and kill the Flash Reverse. That's when Barry goes back in time to prevent himself from saving his mother and changing the world, which triggers the "reboot" of the DC Universe (adding the Wildstorm universe and part of Vertigo too).


I think that it works as a Flash story, and it's entertaining and interesting, but it's not enough to have all these crossover comicbooks around this story. I just bought the main series, and maybe I should have bought the Batman's one, but honestly, it's enough with the main one (even it might be interesting to read about the reasons of the war in Aquaman and Wonderwoman series, or about this different Superman). On the other hand, Andy Kubert's art is good, as good as his previous comicbooks, so I can't complain about his art.

To sum up, I think that if we take it as a Flash and Batman's story it works and is quite entertainig. So, Rest in Peace all the characters who died because of the relaunch.
